Las rutas por las que viajamos son cintas grises que diseccionan campos de color.” En este sentido, a través del color gris se realiza un trabajo serial y pictórico que insiste en la repetición vehemente de formas y patrones que se desvanecen. Estas formas vegetales se van modificando de manera procesual haciendo evidente un cambio en la gestualidad del trazo, en el uso del color gris y en la composición de las mismas formas. Este trabajo es un registro pictórico y experimental (casi fenomenológico) sobre el uso del proceso creativo como reflexión a través del cual poder poner resistencia a los nuevos ritmos de información https://ignaciotapia.com/03 Otro terreno baldío más es el título de un ejercicio compositivo en el que trabajo la fotografía mediante edición digital y que tiene como resultado un minuto audiovisual en el que se combinan tres imágenes y tres sonidos; un espacio abandonado mutable que se hace y se deshace a sí mismo. A través del collage, o más bien, a través de un "détournement" al estilo de Debord y los situacionistas, utilizo imágenes de un solar en obras abandonado desde tres puntos de vista que combino con dos sonidos digitales y un sonido ambiente. El proyecto desarrolla, de un modo ciertamente particular, los planteamientos de postpintura en el campo expandido que desde finales de los años sesenta del pasado siglo han venido reconsiderando el estatuto del cuadro en el arte y la cultura contemporánea. Así, se propone una inteligente y arriesgada “vuelta de tuerca” a esta tradición, mediante la envolvente y extrañante asimilación de la pintura como modo de modificación y aprehensión del espacio. Llevando a un terreno personal -a una experiencia cotidiana en el taller alfombrado en el que se trabajan obsesivamente los lienzos- la supuesta frialdad óptica de la herencia postminimal que podemos rastrear en Daniel Buren, o también en los objetos cromáticos de Donald Judd, o en la “pintura de luz” de Dan Flavin. Una aproximación a la exposición A Study in Blue and Green (Wall Painting Series) Hace un par de años los comisarios de la presente exposición intercambiábamos opiniones (mensajes) acerca del libro Daniel Buren. La postpintura en el campo expandido, de Javier Hernando Carrasco. Entre otras cuestiones nos llamó especialmente la atención el modo en que Buren denunciaba el protagonismo de la figura del comisario de exposiciones, “considerando que éste convierte al artista en un instrumento al servicio de su acción transformada en artística; o sea el comisario como artista”[1], como indica el autor. El artista lo apuntaba hace ya más de veinte años, pero, sea como fuere, parece una cuestión ciertamente candente, pues hace poco Ignacio Tapia publicaba en redes sociales una imagen del fragmento del libro al que nos referimos. No obstante, nos encontramos aquí con un fenómeno inverso, el de los artistas como comisarios. La anécdota expuesta, al margen del debate al que se presta, nos sirve también para anotar un aspecto del trabajo de Ignacio que él mismo comenta durante las visitas que realizamos a su estudio, y es su dimensión política en cuanto al proceso de producción de las obras. Mientras que en Daniel Buren esta idea la encontramos principalmente en la fase expositiva, en el campo expandido, Tapia contempla su práctica, sus horas de encierro en el estudio, como un claro posicionamiento ideológico, de resistencia incluso. Líneas, bandas o volúmenes pictóricos que, más que repeticiones son reiteraciones, pues, aunque sinónimos aparentes, hay un matiz diferenciador en el segundo de estos términos: su carácter enfático. Entonces, podría decirse que esta idea de resistencia a la que el artista se refiere se hace aún más evidente si el motivo o patrón formal de este proyecto se reduce a uno solo, un módulo expandido que se fragmenta y dispone por la sala de exposiciones sugiriendo así cierta narratividad espacial. Digamos que una cosa lleva a otra, del estudio a la sala y de las salas al estudio. Nuestra relación con el artista se nutre de visitas y viajes cuya piedra angular estriba en un decidido posicionamiento crítico, un cuestionamiento del arte y de las artes. Es inevitable, por lo tanto, que esta actitud dubitativa halle un punto de encuentro en nuestras prácticas, y que éstas, a su vez, se retroalimenten. Así, nuestra encomienda como comisarios -“noveles”- radica en buscar unidad, así como ayudar a generar marcos de interpretación del discurso de Tapia. Es lo que entendemos que puede ser la labor curatorial y lo que, como artistas, podemos aportar al proyecto en su fase expositiva, aunque los diálogos con el artista acerca del proyecto hayan comenzado meses antes de la muestra. No obstante, el artista sostiene que los motivos pictóricos presentes en esta exposición tienen su origen en fotografías de lugares por los que transita y que posteriormente ajusta o distorsiona digitalmente. En el caso de esta muestra, Tapia se basa en el efecto de la luz que emiten los tubos de neón. Este motivo le sirve para limitar su pintura a unos pocos elementos básicos que nos deslizan hacia un mundo abstracto, de factura impecable, elegante y frío. Constituyen a su vez reminiscencias de un arte minimalista que tiene sus máximos exponentes en las célebres Lights de Dan Flavin o en las Floor Sculpture Series de Donald Judd (a las que se hace referencia en el título de la muestra). Es por ello que debemos entender las Wall Painting Series de Ignacio Tapia como pinturas relacionales, contempladas como continuación de la tradición pictórica abstracta que se revela a partir de su instalación e iluminación. No creemos equivocarnos al denominar a Ignacio Tapia como un esteta. En su habitación, anexa al estudio donde trabaja, nos encontramos una serie de objetos cotidianos (platos, jarrones, ceniceros...) que el artista ha dispuesto -principalmente entre libros- creando una especie de melodía o ritmo a partir de los patrones presentes en estos útiles que, ahora, pierden su funcionalidad y pasan a ser elementos decorativos por sus cualidades estéticas. Formas triangulares y rectangulares, así como colores fríos que, de manera consciente o inconsciente, parecen ocupar un espacio en el imaginario del artista si reparamos en la producción anterior a la presente exposición. Pero sobre todo nos llama la atención el suelo, tanto de la habitación como del estudio, cubierto de alfombras victorianas -o similares-, algunas de éstas de color rojo intenso que, en efecto, contrastan y refuerzan las tonalidades verdosas de las obras ahora expuestas. Podría decirse que el marco compositivo de Tapia se expande y no se limita a los bordes del lienzo, donde la periferia tiene una función: la de generar tensiones, pareciera que inversamente proporcionales, entre el cromatismo y la forma, entre la complementariedad rojo- verde y los motivos vegetales en contraposición con la depuración de geometrías básicas. En este sentido, nos parece pertinente el apunte al contexto circundante de las pinturas, pues a menudo el artista lo elige como marco a la hora de mostrar su trabajo por redes sociales, donde compone la fotografía a través de un híbrido entre sus obras y los elementos adyacentes. El autor remite así a producciones, especialmente en el plano pictórico, que se centran en la idea de presencia, en la atención en el objeto y la forma, así como en su presentación en el espacio. De esta manera, nos habla de uno de sus “héroes”[2], Blinky Palermo, y su obsesión por convertir la sala expositiva en una experiencia estética en su conjunto a través de pequeñas pinturas monocromas. Tampoco podemos evitar pensar en Rothko y sus pinturas para la capilla en Houston, uno de sus últimos empeños por transmitir una visión espiritual del arte por medio tanto de la arquitectura y de la iluminación como de la pintura en sí. Influido también por conceptos tomados de filosofías orientales, en las pinturas de Ad Reinhardt, la neutralización de códigos ópticos y perceptivos derivan en una fisicidad que no es tan sólo objeto de contemplación, sino parte del espacio en el que se encuentra, generando así “ambientes”. De este modo, las obras de Ignacio constituyen una amalgama que se nutre de investigaciones en torno a la pintura de campos de color y a artistas que trabajan con la inestabilidad de éstos a partir del ritmo y la óptica. En ambos casos, el objetivo es llegar a una vibración que se genera en el momento en el que dos colores se relacionan entre sí, por su proximidad o contraste. Así, a partir de los planteamientos expuestos, A Study in Blue and Green. Wall Painting Series contempla la presentación de las obras desde una dimensión instalativa, lo que implica otorgar valores semejantes a los diferentes planos del espacio. Consecuentemente, adquieren relevancia no exclusivamente las paredes sobre las que descansan los óleos sino también el suelo, cubierto de alfombras, condicionando así la experiencia estética y perceptiva. Tal recubrimiento -de alfombras- insta, indudablemente, al detenimiento, tanto por lo placentero de desplazarnos sobre una superficie acolchada como por los usos a los que asociamos tales elementos, especialmente en culturas orientales. Entonces, podríamos decir que esta última referencia a lo arabesco enlaza con la producción de Tapia, de factura mínimal, pues éstas se encuentran en los extremos, es decir, en la negación de la imagen, ya sea mediante ornamentaciones complejas o a través de geometrías básicas. Si, como indica la artista Teresa Lanceta, la figuración “en el arte occidental tiende a individualizar los elementos, [...] mientras que en las composiciones ornamentales [...] no existe el predominio piramidal de unos elementos sobre otros”[3], aquí, en la primera exposición individual de Ignacio Tapia, encontramos una llamada al equilibrio, paradójicamente, a través de los contrastes formales y cromáticos así como de la condición liminar y subversiva de los elementos que se disponen por el espacio. Dicho de otro modo, no habría que pasar por alto que no se exponen obras pictóricas entendidas en el sentido tradicional de la disciplina, ni tampoco las alfombras resultan ser meros elementos decorativos, sino que componen, refuerzan e imprimen una temporalidad pausada a las pinturas adyacentes, una atmósfera.Finalmente, tomamos distancia para ofrecer una última reflexión a modo de anécdota. No resulta azaroso que empezásemos estas líneas remitiéndonos a un libro y las acabemos ahora con otro -catálogo en este caso-: A Study in Red and Green, referente a la exposición del mismo nombre comisariada por el artista Mark Wallinger para celebrar el inicio de su andadura con la galería Hauser &amp; Wirth en el stand de Frieze London de 2014. Para la ocasión, Wallinger, inspirado en el estudio de Sigmund Freud en Hampstead, tal y como se indica en dicha publicación, “developed a highly original installation, playing on ideas of domestic space and the rational and unconsciuous polarities of creativity”[4]. Tapia, reconocido amante de los libros no solo por su contenido sino también por sus cualidades estéticas en tanto que objetos “a atesorar”, en uno de nuestros últimos encuentros previos a su inauguración en la Facultad de Bellas Artes de Málaga quedó prendado del catálogo en cuestión - adquirido recientemente por los comisarios- y de ahí el título de su exposición. espacio, el análisis del color y la repetición rítmica de referencias arquitectónicas y fotográficas. El interés que mantiene por las técnicas de impresión y la copia le permite preguntarse acerca de aquello que conecta los conceptos de reproducción y documentación.
